Thank you for your prayerful support for the work of Langham Preaching around the world. This week Phil Nicholson, our Regional Coordinator for East Asia, shares some thoughts leading to a focus for prayer in the week ahead.
We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all God’s people… For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives. Colossians 1:3-4,9
A feature of Paul’s letters is his prayers for the churches. He notes how he always gives thanks for God’s work in their lives. He prays that God would continue to work in them, transforming them and using them for his purposes. These prayers are a wonderful model of how to pray for one another. They remind us of our unity in Christ. Paul does not know many of these people personally, but his heart and his joy are bound up with the spiritual wellbeing of these brothers and sisters.
It is a challenge to see one another in this light and to pray with such compassion. Even in our separation and our suffering, we are bound together in Christ through such prayers. We are not alone in our struggles, but stand together rejoicing in the powerful work of God in our lives and weeping together as we pray for those who are suffering.
I was reminded of these verses when I received an email from Sein Kyi, our movement coordinator in Myanmar. He wrote: ‘We all remember you all in our daily prayer for God to bless you more and to use you more for the Kingdom of God to extend.’ In the midst of great suffering they are able to rejoice in the Lord and to pray for us. Let’s pray for them…
• Many families have no money for food and face violence from their own government.
Pray God ends the violence and political oppression in Myanmar
• May those who have Covid-19, including Sein Kyi and his wife Ruby, find medical help and healing from the Lord.
Let’s remember to give thanks…
Give thanks for Langham Preaching in the Philippines. From the beginning, two years ago, participants have been eager to pass on what they learn and just a few months after the first seminar, another was held in a different region and language. Many people began training others in their local networks and churches. Over 160 people now attend weekly preaching clubs and local pastors prepare their Sunday sermons together. Plans are now underway to partner with over 100 tribal churches on another island! It is exciting to witness God at work in this grassroots movement and pastors hungry for the Word, passionate to serve, and eager to learn.
Please pray for the work in other places around the world…
Malaysia: Eight leaders and staff from East Timor Campus Crusade for Christ join Njoo Mee Fang (facilitator) on Zoom once more on August 23 for the introduction to Langham Preaching. Please pray for a commitment to learn in order to teach in this student ministry, for the flourishing of a preaching club for them and their internet connections.
Cambodia: A Training of Local Facilitators, postponed because of pervasive Covid-19 in July, takes place this week with 12 participants expected. Tit Hieng and Vachana are facilitating this event in a rural area so as to avoid crowds. Pray that in spite of another wave of Covid-19, by faith, this training can take place, the participants come willing to learn and for effective financial support raising to cover the costs.
Paraguay: Wilfredo Weigandt (Regional Coordinator) asks us to pray for the advancement of the Level Two group meetings in Ciudad del Este on August 23rd. Pray that the participants can develop faithful, relevant and clear preaching of the Epistles.
Central America: A Seedbed reunion led by the National Committee, Jorge Atiencia and Dionisio Orjuela (Regional Coordinator) happens August 26 and 27 with 15 participants expected. ‘Please, pray for the health and wellness for the Seedbed members and their families. May this time be a blessing for all of them.’
Costa Rica: On August 27, a Level One seminar (in person) will take place in Costa Rica with Carlos Tenorio and Ericka Mora facilitating. Pray that the 60 participants expected ‘commit to the three-year process of preaching in a faithful, relevant and clear way.’
Mexico: The third of four virtual Level One meetings takes place Saturday followed by escuelita meetings during the following week. Juan Luis Méndez, David Gallegos, Damaris Ameca and Karla Munguía will facilitate learning for about 100 participants with Alex Chiang, Jorge Atiencia and Dionisio Orjuela preaching model sermons. ‘Because it is a virtual event, we pray for excellent connectivity, biblical expositions that minister to the participants, workshops and escuelitas meetings where the tools for a healthy exegesis, an accurate contextualization and a clear communication are applied.’
Thank you for your faithfulness in prayer!
