Dear Friends

Thank you for your prayerful support for the work of Langham Preaching around the world. This week Igor Amestegui, our Director for Latin America, shares some thoughts leading to a focus for prayer in the week ahead.

Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word (Acts 6:3-4).

On Saturday, October 31st, we had more than 200 Latin Americans interceding during the Langham Preaching Day of Prayer and Celebration. Some of you might ask, ‘why does a ministry dedicated to training preachers emphasize prayer?’ Prayer is essential in all Christian ministry, but it is much more meaningful and profound in our Langham Preaching ministry. Why? In Acts 6:3-4, we read that the apostles asked the church to choose deacons to distribute food to the widows ‘…and [we] will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.’ They didn’t look down on the social ministry, they simply were aware that they couldn't do it all and needed to delegate this responsibility. For them, and for those of us who preach today, prayer and the ministry of the word are like the two wings of an aeroplane. Can you say which wing is more important than the other?

Let’s remember to give thanks…

Langham Preaching Trinidad & Tobago is overflowing with thanks to God for the wonderful Stott100 celebration held November 13th. Over 100 people from 20 denominations participated in the 1½ hour virtual meeting. Everyone who took part received a copy of John Stott's book, God's Word for Today's World. We are grateful for and very blessed by this unique opportunity for gathering together.

Please pray for the people and work in other places around the world

Myanmar: Sein Kyi (preaching movement coordinator) writes, ‘I would like to present to you a prayer request [because] we cannot hold any seminar for Langham Preaching yet because of world pandemic and politics here in Myanmar. We all are praying for the Langham work to continue in the near future as we did before.

By the grace of God, we have been having Langham fellowship with Zoom three times in a month for two months already. There, one models preaching, praying for one another and for our country, Langham work for local and foreign, some testimonies and so on. At least, we could have such an opportunity during this very hardship situation in our country. Thank you for praying for us.’

Colombia: Mercedes Quintero (escuelita coordinator) writes so that we might share with them in their gratitude for the Preaching Club Coordinators’ Refresher Day held late October. Twenty-two preaching club coordinators from Medellín and Antioquía participated in this time of extended learning. Their prayer is that what was learned will be sustained and practised in the different Escuelitas from the region.

Burkina Faso: Forty seminarians from Missio Dei College, Tenkodogo, gather for a Level One seminar this week facilitated by Roland Tamini, Amos Nougtara, and Romain Zabre. Amos (coordinator) offers three prayer requests: Because this region is increasingly affected by terrorism, pray for safety as they travel; pray these seminarians actively participate together and assimilate well what they are learning; pray that their preaching clubs will be enlivened by this experience.

Slovenia: Slavko Hadžić is facilitating a Level One seminar for 10-15 participants this week in Ljubljana. Chris Scobie (on site in Slovenia) says they are experiencing high rates of Covid infections and the government is considering another lock-down and so he asks us to ‘pray that the situation with Covid will not prevent Slavko from crossing the two borders between Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina or keep the participants from attending. Pray also that the participants will easily understand and adopt Langham Preaching principles and teachings.’

Bosnia and Herzegovina: Please continue to pray for Slavko Hadžić as he facilitates the weekly Level One seminar for eight potential preachers in Word of Life Church in Zenica. This seminar will run until the end of January.

Thank you for your faithfulness in prayer!
