Thank you for your prayerful support for the work of Langham Preaching around the world. This week Alex Chiang, our Regional Coordinator for the Andean region in Latin America, shares some thoughts that lead us into prayer in the week ahead.
José Vieira is a Brazilian missionary who fell in love with the Andean highlands. José survived Covid-19, but with terrible consequences. A lengthy section of his small intestine was removed, while the formation of blood clots in his heart continues to threaten his life. José is a man of faith. I’ve witnessed how his living relationship with Jesus Christ has produced a greater dependence on the grace that saved him. His suffering has not been in vain. We won't stop praying until God gives us the joy of seeing him fully recovered and assuming his various roles, including as the coordinator of the preaching movement in Peru. I am ashamed that I do not possess the strength of his faith. I wonder if my trust in God will sustain me when ‘the day of trouble’ arrives. I have been encouraged by reading these verses in Habakkuk again:
16 I heard and my heart pounded, my lips quivered at the sound; decay crept into my bones, and my legs trembled. Yet I will wait patiently for the day of calamity to come on the nation invading us. 17 Though the fig-tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the sheepfold and no cattle in the stalls, 18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Saviour. 19 The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights (Hab 3.16-19).
Please pray for the work elsewhere in Latin America this week…
Pray for the millions who have lost husbands and wives, fathers and mothers due to Covid-19. May God once again be the God of widows and orphans, especially those who are part of the Langham family worldwide.
Andean Region: Pray for the coordinating team serving with José Vieira in Peru: Abdías León, Fernando Sevilla, Fiorella Ramírez, Efraín Medina and Luis Sánchez. Pray also for the team in Ecuador: Eduardo Vega, Fernanda Badillo, Félix Valencia and Josué Olmedo. May God give them grace and wisdom to form preaching movements that build their countries with a human face.
USA: Pray for the start of a Langham Preaching work in the Hispanic world in the United States of America. May God allow us to consolidate a team responsible for this task.
Southern Cone: The coordinating teams for the preaching movements in Chile and Uruguay are currently inviting pastors and leaders to participate in the next remote Level One seminar, to take place in October-November. Please pray that God connects them with the people who need the training that Langham offers.
Let’s remember to give thanks …
A nationwide ‘day of prayer’ for the preaching movements across India was organized on a recent Saturday. At its peak, 11 zoom screens were filled with 172 people. After a devotional from Dwi Maria Handayani, updates were received from each preaching movement, one by one, and then prayers of thanksgiving and intercession were offered. Give thanks for the encouragement this brought to Praveen & Veena Bunyan and their team.
Please pray for the work in other places…
Burkina Faso: On Wednesday a ‘training of local facilitators’ commences in Ouagadougou. 15 participants are expected to join the facilitators, Roland Tamini and Amos Nougtara. Amos asks us to pray for ‘a total success of this first training session for trainers in our preaching movement’. Pray also as people travel from diverse areas at a time when such travelling can be difficult.
Thank you for your faithfulness in prayer!
