Dear Friends

Thank you for your prayerful support for the work of Langham Preaching around the world. This week Jocabed Solano, a delegate to the 2019 Women’s Forum from Latin America and member of the national team for Langham Preaching, Panama, shares some thoughts leading to a focus for prayer in the week ahead.

The entire creation groans and suffers birth pains, (Romans 8:22, Reina Valera).

From October 31 to November 12, 2021, the UN Climate Change Conference, COP 26, takes place in Glasgow, Scotland. Scientists, civil society, and indigenous peoples are demanding that nations commit to taking ambitious actions in the face of this climate emergency caused by the damage human beings have done to the earth. In this passage, Paul tells us that creation is groaning and travailing and it resonates with my Gunadule people because it is similar to a metaphor we sing: ‘This is how we are united with the earth, as the mother has been united with her baby for nine months through the umbilical cord.’ We groan for the injustices that are experienced in our contexts. We groan until we no longer have breath because of drought, floods and deforestation. We groan for the land that does not produce and the forced displacement of those who have been violated by necropolitics (the use of social and political power to dictate how some people may live and how some must die).

Paul experienced the realities of economic, cultural, ethnic and religious injustices of the first century. What is his message of hope in the midst of this concert of painful groans? The Spirit of God is working on the restoration of all creation and calls us to participate in this liberation.’ To live the gospel of Jesus is to recognize our call to relate justly with the rest of creation remembering that it is the Spirit of God who is actively operating in the restoration of all creation.

Let’s remember to give thanks

One of the privileges we have is working with friends and colleagues from so many different nations and cultures. Many of those contributing to the work of Langham Preaching are persevering in places of persecution, political instability and violence. Their commitment and joy despite these difficult circumstances is something that is inspiring and humbling. We are so thankful for the gift they are to God’s work and to us.

Please pray for the variety of work taking place around the world

Indonesia: For three Mondays beginning November 1, Phil Nicholson**** (Regional Coordinator) will facilitate training for 30 participants from across Indonesia. Pray this virtual seminar will help empower the local facilitators as they contextualize their teaching and make preaching from the Old Testament more accessible for their people.

Burkina Faso: Amos Nougtara (coordinator), Roland Tamini, and Romain Zabre are facilitating a Level Three seminar this week for 30 participants from Ouagadougou and surrounding areas. Pray for these pastors who have ‘all been faithful in their preaching for three years now.’ Pray, too, for their safety in gathering and traveling as Burkina Faso is experiencing much insecurity.

West Africa Region: Tuesday, all preaching movement coordinators and preaching club coordinators meet virtually to hear ministry reports and to pray for one another. Roland Tamini (Regional Coordinator) will facilitate this gathering. Please pray for strong internet connections as these leaders come together to report and pray together. .

Liberia: This week, the planning committee for the Vision Bearers’ Consultation meet. Pray for God’s hand in all the plans that are made during this time.

Bosnia and Herzegovina: Slavko Hadžić (coordinator)is facilitating a Level One seminar for eight potential preachers in Word of Life Church in Zenica. The seminar, in the format of a preaching club, will begin November 3rd and continue weekly until complete. ‘Pray that no one gets sick and that unexpected things will not prevent participants or facilitator from attending all meetings.’

Andean Region, Hispanic Diaspora: Please continue to pray for the new initiative that unites preaching club coordinators from Peru, Ecuador and Bolivia with others in the diaspora in the USA, Canada, UK and South Africa.

Thank you for your faithfulness in prayer!
