Dear Friends

Thank you for your prayerful support for the work of Langham Preaching around the world. This week, Abby Galzote, member of Langham Connect, facilitator and translator for Langham Preaching, Philippines, shares some thoughts that lead our hearts towards prayer.

The Philippine elections took place May 9th. Winners for the city and municipality positions have been announced and more than 98% of electronic election returns have been transmitted, reflecting the partial and unofficial tally for the national positions. The unofficial tally is all over social media, raising the anxiety levels of the Filipino people awaiting the announcement of the new president who will serve for the next six years. For most of the Filipinos, the president will determine either the success or failure of our nation. But for those of us who are Christians, our hope is in Jesus Christ no matter who our national leader will be.

Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God. Psalm 20:7 (NIV)

This verse strikes me most especially as so many in our nation expect the new president to be our ‘saviour’ from the effects of the pandemic and other pressing issues. Instead of trusting the Lord, many put their trust in ‘chariots and horses’ — in the new national leaders.

Pray for our election results and elected officials and that few election issues and irregularities occur. Pray for the Filipino people to put their trust in the Lord. Pray for our preachers to be bold in biblical preaching that is faithful, relevant, and clear during these uncertain times.

Let’s remember to give thanks

During the height of the pandemic most of our in-person seminars were postponed and some of our preaching movements moved to virtual seminars. Early last year, a young woman from Tripura, India, attended a virtual Level One seminar. Having learned remotely, she then organised the training for others in Tripura (a new location for Langham Preaching) with our Northeast India Preaching Movement coordinators. Praise God for how He continued growing the work in India despite pandemic challenges.

India: The Tripura virtual seminar began April 30th and continues each Saturday until July 9th. Alongla Aier, Johnson Raih, and Kedo Peseyie are the facilitators for the 35 participants. Kedo writes: ‘Please pray that the seminar will make a deep impact on the participants for the benefit of the churches and Christian ministries in Tripura. Pray that they will catch the vision to form and sustain Preaching Clubs in Agartala.’

Please pray for the work in other places around the world

Cambodia: The preaching movement facilitating team hosts a virtual refresher course this week for 50 participants. Somnang Sin (coordinator) asks that we pray for each of the facilitators and participants as they review and gain deeper understanding of the one Big Story of the Old and New Testaments. May it truly refresh all of them.

Colombia: Joaquín Madera, Samuel Sánchez, and Mercedes Quintero continue facilitating a virtual Level Two seminar with Wilfredo Weigandt preaching. This cohort of 135 participants from the Caribbean region of Colombia are studying and preaching from Philemon. Please, pray that God leads this event from start to finish, internet connectivity will be strong and lasting relationships established.

Argentina: A Level Three in-person seminar facilitated by Nelly Pérez (coordinator), Anahí Alberti and Norma Ferrer takes place this week in Buenos Aires. Please pray that the ten people participating in this Psalms study will have their spirits renewed during this time and that this facilitating team will be consolidated for future Level Three seminars.

Croatia: Saturday, Oliver Buljat (coordinator) and Danijel Kolarik gather in Djakovo with 15 other people from six different locations for the establishment of preaching clubs in Dalmatia. Pray this new initiative will be established on a solid foundation and bear much fruit in the years to come.

Thank you for your faithfulness in prayer!
