Dear Friends

Thank you for your prayerful support for the work of Langham Preaching around the world. This week Mark Meynell, our Director for Europe and the Caribbean, shares some thoughts leading to a focus for prayer in the week ahead.

… I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. (Jn 17:20–21)

Despite our greater connectivity and all the talk of belonging to a global village, our world seems even more fragmented and broken than ever. The tragedy is that the church can feel no different at times. We too easily reflect the cultures we inhabit. Yet the Lord Jesus came to create a new humanity, one that was truly united despite all the divisions with which we live. More than that, his prayer is for this unity to be the very thing that convinces the watching world that he is at work. After all, how else will people live, work, and love across seemingly impossible boundaries?

Please pray for the work across Europe and the Caribbean

I will never forget one senior brother at the first Langham Preaching event in Austria several years ago. I noticed that after he walked into the meeting hall for the first time he had tears flowing down his cheeks. He spoke little English and I have very little German, but he was able to communicate that he’d been praying for a gathering of believers from across the Protestant churches to gather like this for over 40 years. But it had never happened. Until a conference to improve preaching was the catalyst to draw them. And he was overwhelmed. While not always as dramatic as this, this seems to happen so often in Langham events. I ’ve certainly witnessed breathtakingly diverse groups gather in several European and Caribbean countries over the years. So let us pray for all our events around the world to be answers to the Lord Jesus’s own prayer, whether online or in person.

Please pray for the work in other places around the world

Sierra Leone: A seminar runs from Thursday to Saturday in N'jala, with 18 participants from across the southern part of the country. The facilitators include Joseph Johnbull, Prince Denden, Roxy Coomba, Paul M. Ngeba, David N'dabai, Chris Jonah and Sao Francis Kamanda. Please pray for maximum cooperation especially on the part of the participants, for traveling mercies and for provisions for every aspect of the programme.

Africa: On Tuesday, the Africa Leadership Team hosts the second quarterly meeting with all preaching movement coordinators and preaching club coordinators from across the continent. The plan is to focus their time together on: (a) the reality of Covid-19 and how to keep ministry going at this difficult time; (b) possible Vision Bearers’ Consultations (VBC), which is the way new preaching movements are initiated in Africa; and (c) the plans for the all-Africa Langham Preaching Sunday in local churches — on 27th June. Please pray for good connectivity, for commitment and that this time of deliberation and planning is a great encouragement to the ministry in Africa.

Thank you for your faithfulness in prayer!
