Dear Friends

Thank you for your prayerful support for the work of Langham Preaching around the world. This week Dionisio Orjuela, our Regional Coordinator in Central America, leads us in our prayer needs for the week ahead.

Be very careful, then, how you live — not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil (Eph 5:15-16).

How would you describe these recent days? If we remember only the news of the last week, we would be in total agreement with the apostle Paul who calls them ‘evil days’. But the apostle not only describes the condition of these times, he also tells us how to face them: being wise like Christ and taking every opportunity to do good. Both these things are closely related with the ministry of preaching. The Word of God is the best source of wisdom — and what better way ‘to take every opportunity to do good’ than through the preaching of the Word? So, in response to the evil times in which we live, let us persist in our commitment to our commission from God: Preach the Word; be constant in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine (2 Tim. 4:2).

Please pray for the work across Latin America...

Unfortunately, the Americas continue to be an epicenter of Covid-19. And yet, while the coronavirus is infecting and killing thousands of people, the Word of God continues to ‘spread rapidly and is honored’ through more than 300 escuelitas scattered across 15 countries — with a work now commencing within the Hispanic diaspora in the USA. We do mourn the death of pastors and leaders within our Langham family, but at the same time we celebrate the miracle of life in people like Charito Améstegui the wife of our director, Igor — and the recovery of José Carlos, Peru's preaching movement coordinator, together with all those who have recovered from covid-19. Thank you for all your prayers and support.

Let’s remember to give thanks

The commitment of medical people in so many places around the world is something for which we give thanks — but so also is their wisdom in helping us combat this virus. Our Africa team invited Dr Simeon Kehinde to address the high levels of scepticism around vaccination programmes. It was so helpful that they have invited him to offer a webinar on “Covid-19: A Christian Perspective and Response”. This takes place on Tuesday, 27 July from 10am-12noon (GMT). You are invited to participate, but please register in advance with this link: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZUscO6qrTopHdZOr6QA1vFmY7Om9T5ZWwJC

Please pray for the work in other places around the world

Trinidad & Tobago: A ‘refresher’ takes place on Saturday around the theme of Faith and Hope in the Pandemic, with Jonathan Lamb as the facilitator. It will be on zoom with 100 people expected, from across the Caribbean — and international participants are also welcome (https://forms.gle/NmqpL5gkDuTyyPcK8). Angela Shirley asks us to pray ‘for the guidance and presence of the Holy Spirit, for good connectivity, for good attendance and for the smooth running of the programme — and that it will be a blessing to all who participate.”

Thank you for your faithfulness in prayer!
