Thank you for your prayerful support for the work of Langham Preaching around the world. This week Dwi Handayani, our Director for Asia, shares some thoughts that lead our hearts towards prayer.
When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others. It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them who told this to the apostles. (Luke 24:9-10)
I really admire the women who came to Jesus' tomb at the time of his resurrection. They were very tired from witnessing the trial, torture and death of Jesus. But after Jesus was buried they did not stop; they prepared spices and perfumes for the dead Jesus. Then early on Sunday morning they immediately went to the tomb to anoint Jesus. What an extraordinary dedication to a dead Messiah. These are the true disciples of Jesus. They don't run when the situation gets tough. They remain loyal and believe even though the situation in front of them is difficult to understand.
Their faithfulness and dedication bore fruit when they were chosen to be the first to hear and see the risen Christ. God entrusted this important news to them. They were the first female preachers to preach the gospel of the resurrection of Jesus. They went to the tomb to serve the dead Jesus and came back to preach the living Jesus.
Brave and talented women are called by God as preachers around the world. We know our duty and calling are not easy. There are many challenges. Even the disciples of Jesus refused to believe the message the women brought. I leave you with an admonition and a benediction. As God said to Joshua: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go” (Josh. 1:9).
Please pray for the work in various places around the world…
Albania: With pleasure, an in-person seminar convenes this week. Slavko Hadžić and Arben Bushgjokaj facilitate for 20 participants. Please pray for safe travel, good fellowship, and the establishment of new preaching fellowships that promote practice and discipleship.
Pakistan: Level One and Level Two in-person seminars happen this week in Karachi! Asif John, Noman Shahbaz, Farhan James, Benjamin Pascal and Regina John facilitate for 35 and 7 participants respectively. Regina asks for prayer for those providing food for three days, the considerable travel required within the city and safety in the midst of an uncertain political situation. Give praise and thanks for expenses covered locally.
Thailand: Forty participants will be taught Old Testament law and how to preach from these difficult portions of scripture with Sim Churnai as facilitator. This virtual seminar continues until 7 June. Pray Sim and the participants maintain their stamina and enthusiasm for this important study. Praise God for the previous seminar (February-April) and the establishment of three new preaching fellowships. In addition, give great thanks and praise for publication, in Thai, of PPP’s 2 Timothy by a local publisher. There remains only Acts to be published in this series.
Colombia: Joaquín Madera, Samuel Sánchez, and Mercedes Quintero facilitate a virtual Level Two seminar with Wilfredo Weigandt preaching. This cohort of 135 participants from the Central America region will study and preach from Philemon during the next four Saturdays. Please, pray that God will lead this event from start to finish, internet connectivity will be strong and lasting relationships established.
India, Northeast: For the next 10 Saturdays, 35 participants engage in a virtual Level One seminar facilitated by Alongla Aier, Kedo Peseyie and Johnson Raih. Veena Bunyan (regional coordinator) offers these items for our prayers: new skills for biblical preaching will be learned and then practiced together in the preaching fellowships that follow, adequate and uninterrupted internet connections, and strength and wisdom for the facilitators for the duration.
Thank you for your faithfulness in prayer!
