Dear Friends

Thank you for your prayerful support for the work of Langham Preaching around the world. This week, Mercy Ireri (Kenya), a member of Langham Connect and the Africa leadership team, shares some thoughts that lead our hearts towards prayer.

As I walked to the shopping centre over the weekend, it struck me as odd that people now move freely in public spaces without face masks. I thought of businesses that have gone down, jobs that have been lost, and of the many people who have died because of COVID-19. As these thoughts raced through my mind, I was reminded of Psalm 124 verse 1 If the Lord had not been on our side…. And for this, I am truly thankful. As we continue to live and serve in this broken and uncertain world, may we be reminded that Our help is in the name of the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth, (v8).

These verses ring in my mind as I consider the general elections coming to Kenya in August. The campaigns and the political rallies intensify with each dawning day. Please pray that the politicians and citizens conduct themselves responsibly so that the campaigns are peaceful; that the measures put in place by the electoral body will guarantee a free and fair election; that the church will continue to proclaim the Gospel of truth and be the voice of reason during this period. What is critical for Kenya is that the Lord, our Help, be on our side.

Let’s give great thanks

In answer to your prayers, the Africa, Latin America, and some members of our Asia and South Pacific leadership teams have now met in person. These gatherings are significant in that strategy was discussed, plans made, and relationships deepened. Whilst productive when meeting virtually, being with one another face-to-face is so much sweeter!

Please pray for the work in other places around the world

Philippines: The preaching movement continues to expand with the following three seminars happening concurrently: 1) Richard Kawi and Willy Galzote continue to facilitate a hybrid (both in-person and virtual participants) Level One seminar (Mondays) for 15 people from eight churches across three provinces. 2) A virtual Level One seminar (Fridays) continues with 28 participants led by a team of nine facilitators. 3) This week, a Level Two in-person seminar with 40 participants will be facilitated by Abby Galzote, Let Malaluan, Jerry Dayot, and Iljo de Keijzer, (coordinator). Pray that the many challenges concerning flights, venues, and materials can be met and overcome as the team presses onward.

Guatemala: A celebration of the conclusion of the first Langham Preaching project and the launch of the second preaching cycle with the training of escuelita coordinators, happens this week with Jorge Atiencia (facilitator) and Nelson Morales (coordinator). Following this event, Jorge Atiencia and Dionisio Orjuela (Regional Coordinator) will facilitate a time focused on the formation of 30 escuelita coordinators at the Central American Theological Seminary in Guatemala City. Nelson asks us to pray for God's blessing during the start of this second cohort.

Latin America: With immense gratitude for their vital work, the Latin America Leadership team is organizing and facilitating a virtual continental gathering of all escuelitas this week. Please, pray for good connectivity, an excellent time of fellowship, and renewed motivation for all 500 participants. Jorge Atiencia rightly declares, ‘the preaching club coordinator is the preaching movement's key link.’

Zimbabwe: Fifteen participants are expected for an in-person Level One seminar beginning this Saturday. The facilitators, Arnold Marunda, Gary Cross and Verengerai Mavesere (coordinator), ask that we pray for inner peace and complete trust in the Lord for all involved.

Jamaica: The first of three in-person sessions of a Level One seminar begins this week in St. Elizabeth parish. A team of five, Lascelles Newman, Georgia Jervis, Dalkeith Bennett, Joel Bain, and Annett Brown (coordinator), will facilitate the different sessions in various combinations. Pray that the 60 participants will grow in grace and in their preaching of God’s word as these facilitators wisely guide them.

Thank you for your faithfulness in prayer!
