Dear Friends
Thank you for your prayerful support of the work of Langham Preaching around the world. There is so much for which to be thankful as God does his work among us and through us. Here is one example from Mark Meynell, our Director for Europe & the Caribbean, based in Maidenhead, UK.
When Paul wrote to the Philippian church in northern Greece, he began simply: I thank my God every time I remember you (Phil 1:3). Of course he goes on to give his reasons for thankfulness, but isn’t it beautiful that his memory of them is grounds enough for his gratitude for them? They have shared experiences (and in Acts 16 we see some were very difficult). However just the fact of knowing them is enough to prompt joy and praise to God. In working for Langham Preaching in different capacities for 22 years now, I share Paul’s gratitude. Happy memories of friends in countries around the world are enough to get me praising God. What a privilege to share in this ministry with brothers and sisters all over! I hope that as you pray through this week’s prayershot you feel the same.
Please pray for the work in various places around the world…
Ethiopia: On Tuesday, in Addis Ababa, an in-person ‘refresher’ seminar takes place, with Frew Tamrat, the preaching movement coordinator, and Aklilu Bekele, the ushirika (preaching club) coordinator. They are expecting 15-20 participants—people who have been through the training, but who are now being encouraged to come together to strengthen the preaching movement in Ethiopia.
Peru & Hispanic Diaspora: From 20 March until 17 April, a virtual Level Three seminar is taking place—designed and managed by the team in Peru, led by Fernando Sevilla. They are expecting 200 participants from across various cities in Peru as well as the diaspora in the United States. We are asked to pray that ‘none of the participants will become bad preachers, even though all of them may not become extraordinary preachers!’
Bolivia: From April to December, there is commencing a monthly ‘refresher’ opportunity for the coordinators of escuelitas (preaching clubs) throughout the country. On the first Saturday of each month, an in-person meeting will take place in Cochabamba, and then, on the first Monday of each month, there will be a virtual meeting on Zoom. The facilitators will be Igor Améstegui, Willian Maida, Fernando Montoya, Carmen Urey and Esteban Améstegui. So far, 15 coordinators have registered for the in-person group and 26 for the virtual group. We are asked to pray that the Lord gives each one the discipline and perseverance to do the tasks before each meeting and that the experience is an encouragement for all coordinators.
Liberia : From Thursday until Saturday a Level Two seminar is planned for 57 participants in Totota, with Samuel Moses, Michael Clement and Matthew Gonkerwon (preaching movement coordinator) as the facilitators. Matthew asks us to pray that ‘all the Ushirikas members will be present and that they will full grasp a deeper understanding of biblical preaching especially moving from text to sermon.’
Thank-you for your faithfulness in this ministry of prayer.
