Dear Friends

Thank you for your prayerful support for the work of Langham Preaching around the world. This week Barbara Nkunda Tumwine, our Preaching Movement Coordinator for Uganda, shares some thoughts leading to a focus for prayer in the week ahead.

In Uganda, about 90% of the school system has not functioned since March 2020. Only a small percentage of students could access online classes during these two years. All sectors of the school system are set to re-open on the 10th of January 2022. Students will have lots of adjustments to make as the teachers try to help them cover the learning material missed and also catch up with the present demands. What a task! As the new year starts, many people are waning and wondering where to begin. Many jobs were lost, businesses closed and, in some instances, loved ones died. On a general scale, this kind of distraction of lives brought about by the pandemic has not been experienced before. I believe this feeling is not just for Ugandans but many members of the Langham Preaching Movements across the globe. In the words of the writer of the letter to the Hebrews:

Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees. Make level paths for your feet, so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed. (Hebrews 12:12-13 NIV)

Let us pray that those of us who have experienced the hope of the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will find encouragement and be able to encourage those who feel like giving up.

Let us pray that the Lord will save us from further lockdowns enabling face to face activities in the preaching clubs and training seminars this year.

Let’s remember to give thanks

As we begin a new year, we are thankful for our Continental Leadership Teams who lead the work in Latin America, Asia, Africa, Europe and the Caribbean. Each team consists of leaders from their specific regions who carry the responsibility of maintaining and developing preaching movements. This includes supporting preaching movement coordinators and national committees, training local facilitators, creating resources, increasing Preaching Clubs and following up on requests for movements in new countries. We’re thankful for those that serve within these teams!

Please pray for the people and work in other places around the world

Sweden: Martin Helgesson (PMC) will introduce Langham’s approach to expository preaching during a conference at Johannelund Theological Seminary, Uppsala, this week. Pray that the 50-60 seminarians and pastors expected to participate will ‘come away with a deepened desire to study and preach God’s word’.

India, North East: A virtual Level Two seminar began last week and will continue Monday and Friday evenings through February 4th. Dwi Handayani (Director for Asia, Indonesia) and Praveen & Veena Bunyan (PMCs, USA) are facilitating for 31 participants from five different language groups (NE India). What a powerful demonstration of how the internet can connect distant points on the globe and gather people to learn together! We are asked to pray ‘For clear connections to the internet, good health for all the participants and the facilitators because the Omicron variant is still rampant in India, Indonesia & USA.’

Thank you for your faithfulness in prayer!

The Langham Preaching Team
